On March 12, BONHATA hosted the Cyber Smart Tourism Security Seminar in collaboration with MCB, KPCN, and the Dutch Caribbean Data Protection Authority (CBP BES), bringing together tourism stakeholders to address the growing importance of cybersecurity, data protection, and privacy.
As tourism businesses increasingly rely on digital systems for reservations, online payments, and guest communication, protecting sensitive customer information is more important than ever. During the session, participants explored key topics such as cybersecurity risks, data privacy, and data protection within Bonaire’s tourism sector.
Through practical examples and real-life cases, attendees gained valuable insights into how cyber threats occur and how everyday practices can impact digital security. The seminar also highlighted protective measures for businesses, the responsible use of AI in cybersecurity, and key privacy regulations such as GDPR, including what information businesses may request from guests and the importance of reporting fraud and cyber incidents.
This initiative is part of BONHATA’s ongoing commitment to strengthening the resilience of Bonaire’s tourism sector through knowledge-sharing and collaboration.
